Civil engineer in public works. He graduated from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, has a post graduate degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Católica in addition to a diploma in Programming and Evaluation of Projects from the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Administration of the Universidad de Chile. The Minister worked as Administration and Finance manager of Eulogio Gordo y Cía, a contracting company involved in civil engineering and large scale mining developments.
He was member of the board of ENAMI (the National Mining Corporation), between 1994 – 1998, during the Government of President Eduardo Frei Ruiz Tagle and later in 2006 in the Government of President Michelle Bachelet.
Between 1997 and 1999, Santiago González was general manager of the Metropolitan Sanitary Works Company, EMOS.
Between 2000 and 2007, he held the position of general manager of the Empresa Polla Chilena de Beneficiencia (National Lottery).
He assumed as Minister of Mining on January 8 and in this quality holds the positions of president of the board of the following companies CODELCO (National Copper Company), ENAP (National Petroleum Corporation) and ENAMI.
